Now Parliament has passed the Road Safety Act 2006 which makes provision for a wide range of road traffic matters, for example:

It creates new offences

It introduces new measures relating to drink driving

It provides for graduated fixed penalties for speeding and increases the range of penalty points available for those offences

It increases the maximum penalties for various road traffic offences
