The Road Safety Act 2006

The Road Safety Act 2006 not only creates the serious offences of causing death by careless driving and causing death by driving whilst uninsured, disqualified or unlicenced (these are yet to come into force), it also makes provision for a number of increases to existing penalties.

The most obvious of these is to increase the points for failing to provide information leading to the identity of a driver from 3 to 6. This change came into force on 24th September 2007. Penalties will be increased for careless and inconsiderate driving and using a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

The Act also proposes new measures relating to drink driving offences and will provide graduated penalties for speeding offences.

The driver is now subject to a plethora of legislation containing more and more restrictions and sanctions. It is absolutely essential that you have a solicitor advocate with the expertise and knowledge to guide you through this maze.
